In the wake of the controversy over the
American president’s extra-marital sex life,
is anything a secret anymore? Given current information-gathering technology,
can anything remain a secret? In a democracy,
should anything remain a secret?
These are important questions, and we know
you wish we could devote the next 10 pages
to discussing them. Regrettably, however,
this is our annual Secrets of the City issue,
when the magazine’s usual gravitas is
suspended in favour of stolen glimpses,
racy outtakes, dicey propositions,
historical oddities, civic minutiae,
urban survival tips and just plain mischief.
